Fasting Mimicking Diet Program

Intermittent fasting has been scientifically proven to encourage longevity, slow aging, and fight disease. Lake Travis Integrative Medicine is excited to share the ProLon® Fasting Mimicking Diet® Program with our patients who want to optimize their health span through the power of nutrition. This patented, new approach to health provides a kick start to your goals and the support of a like-minded community.

In clinical studies, fasting has been shown to decrease cardiovascular disease risk, decrease cancer risk, lower diabetes risk, improve cognitive function, and even protect against some effects of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. A new program that mimics the fasting state and provides specific nutrients was developed at the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California.

ProLon® is a 5-day dietary program that nourishes your body while promoting regenerative and rejuvenating changes, including effects on a wide range of markers that contribute to aging, such as cholesterol, inflammation, and fasting glucose.

Prolon is a great plan for patients who feel stuck. When our body thinks we’re starving, it turns on a process called “autophagy,” or the ability to clean up after itself. Think of it as your body getting all of the guests out of the house who have worn out their welcome so we can clean and vacuum all the floors. Prolon can turn off autoimmune, obesity, inflammation, brain fog, and sleep disturbances!  – Dr. Julie

This program mitigates the burden and danger of water-only fasting, while responding to the unmet need of having a tasty and convenient, proven and safe dietary program that does not require ongoing lifestyle changes, such as long-term dieting.

The benefits of the Prolon® program are:

  • Fat-Focused Weight Loss
  • Stem Cell Rejuvenation
  • Improved Mental Focus
  • Improved Skin
  • Energy Boost
  • Healthier Blood Glucose and Cholesterol

Fasting Mimicking Diet kits are available as an add on to your visit, or as a dedicated monthly group event with checks ins, coaching, and a support group included.

A 10-minute complimentary phone call is recommended to determine whether a Fasting Mimicking Diet program is a good fit for you. This can also be discussed during your appointment with any of our practitioners. Please call Allison at 512-998-2944 to be added to our next Prolon event!

Recent Patient Diary (It’s All About the Olives):

Day 1: I did well. Ate all my food-items per instructions. Love the olives!
Today’s soups don’t taste very good to my palate.  So I tried to talk myself into believing as was having split pea soup with grilled cheese croutons and a glass of 2013 Fog Head Reserve Chardonnay. *sigh*

Day 2: Thought I’d be more hungry than I was. So far, so good. Did I mention I love the olives?
Pro tip: The mushroom soup tastes a little better if you put small bits of cardboard in it! Use the crackers as a substitution if there’s no cardboard around.

Day 3: Doing surprising well. I thought I would be having a harder time. The trick is to keep busy and stay focused but, DO NOT, under any circumstances watch reruns of Iron Chef on The Food Channel! Must be strong! In fact I could have skipped the dinner meal today. —Found a new appreciation for kale crackers I never had before.
P.S. Going through “no olives” withdrawal.

Day 4: This was a tough day but I persevered. I’m starting to have unnatural fantasies about olives.

Day 5: I end the fast as I started it BUT without the olives! Sad. Feeling lighter. I notice that I can wear some shirts that had been pretty tight before.
